This Is For The Parents Of Today's Children How do we continue the March of the gospel from one generation to the next? Psalm 145:4 "One generation shall praise thy works to another , and shall declare thy mighty acts." Deuteronomy 6: 5-9, known as the Jewish Shema. The Jewish people taught a very important message which they passed from one generation to the next. This is what was being taught, "You shall love the Lord thy God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today will be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children. And shall talk to them as you sit in your house, when walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up." Deuteronomy 6: 5-7 The March toward the gospel began with Adam and Eve, and we watch as God protects and directs the generations to the Birth of Jesus. Then we watch as generation after generation proclaims the glory of God and our Savior Jesus.. Something to truly behold! We watch as some turn their back on the truth and the consequences of such actions, and we watch as other generations seek forgiveness for their sins and God restores and blesses them. Satan and secular humanists have attempted to stop the spread of the gospel in more ways throughout history .. But God has always kept His promises! We of this generation better learn from our past. We would be wise to study previous generations. There is no guarantee the next generation will follow and it surely will not happen without the immediate attention and intentional focus of the previous generation. History is full of examples of when the next generation faced horrible defeat and suffering because of the neglect of the previous generation. God forbid we don't take note and move ahead to train up our children in the TRUTH. It is our job to train our offspring and where the parents or caregivers are not doing so to support the church and para church organizations like Child Evangelism Fellowship to accomplish the goal. Calling all parents and volunteers to reach and teach the future generation Godly living! If you forsake the Lord you can expect those of your next generation to do the same. What you may do today in moderation you can expect them to do in excess. There is no substitute for careful and thoughtful training of our children. They will not learn things in vacuum. They will not learn things through osmosis.. But they will learn much from their peers and from electronic media. If you want to raise your children to be God fearing honorable citizens it will take more. I hear so many parents of teens crying out with sorrow. And sadly Beth and I join the chorus of pain as we watch some of the decisions and choices our children and grandchildren make. The children of today are struggling with addictions and with a total abandonment of any form of Godly living. Some wonder if there is any way back? So many kids are going through hard times as they have been led astray by peers and "friends." False teaching permeates the airways of life as our children / grandchildren head down the road only to find out it is a dead end road. Some of these precious children are losing their freedom and others have even lost their lives as they listen to the teaching of the devil himself. It is time to wake up parents and check your priorities; start early to instill the TRUTH in their hearts and minds ..while you can! Here are some things that may make all the difference. 1. Proverbs 1:8 Makes it clear it is best when both Father and mother are involved.
2. Make sure your children have the opportunity to make a personal choice to give their hearts and lives to Jesus.
A. Teach them the gospel.
3. Make an intentional focus to teach your children the Truths of Gods Word the focus of your home.
A. Teach the fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 6 B. Teach forgiveness. C. Teach them to make decisions while looking through the lens of Gods Word. D. Teach them creation, the first truth of the Bible. E. Teach honesty and teach values. F. Teach them how to love as Christ loved them. G. Etc.
4. Point out Gods creation and his work to your children always making sure they give God the glory due Him.
5. Make it a point of importance and discipline to go to a church and check to make sure the Sunday school program is more than entertainment or babysitting.
6. Be a great example of Jesus to your children - determine where there will be no compromise and be faithful to those decisions.
7. Model Christ in your own lives.
8. Set boundaries after deciding on them between the two of you. Don't leave the next generation wandering in the desert of life that only seems to be getting more inhospitable. Instead, teach them about the living water where they will thirst no more. May God bless each of you as you journey through life leaving another generation to march on with the gospel to be the preservative of truth for future generations
