When leadership inflates the value of their endeavors, they lose their credibility. This often leads to the leadership not accepting criticism. This leads to the next level; very little if any self appraisal and finally, no evaluation of flaws. Today, news is dotted with stories of companies overstating their values or leaders making false statements to “look better than they are.” Many leaders are exploring and experiencing the depths as they rise in leadership. Decay begins when the leaders lose touch with reality. I have watched and worked alongside some of the most prominent leaders In America, many gifted and talented and on top of their game for years. I can remember many very intimate and important discussions with them as they moved to the top, only to find themselves falling and being bucked of the horse of ultimate and lasting success. These leaders had built great respect. They had massive bank accounts, intelligence and competence. Their drive to win was unparalleled. Their work ethic was on point. So why did they get bucked off the horse of success? They began to see themselves as invulnerable and above others, often even above the law. They experienced success and may I suggest they began to believe their own headlines and saw only the “inevitability” of their success. They failed to recognize any of the hidden pitfalls. People worshiped them. People were often seen fawning over these leaders like they were rock stars. What I noticed is how many of these leaders when asked or confronted with a significant question, answered by glossing over the question. These leaders had one thing in common; they had an inner circle of only those who agreed with every move they made, instead of those who would question and confront. It was a resounding chorus of positive yea-sayers. Some lost their families and marriages, along with their coveted positions while building their empires. Some fell in disgrace because of “Clintonesque” behavior. Others suffered loss because of disrespect for the rule of law and others just because of unadulterated greed. The thing I noticed about all of them was a lack of proper priorities in their personal and business lives, while often speaking publicly about the importance of priorities. Duplicity was alive and well within the ranks of much of the dynamic leadership. Leaders, Always look for what can be improved and take action to do so. The fact is it's probably more important than you can even imagine to surround yourself with people who will confront and say no when it is appropriate. Never lose sight of what is truthfully going on. God honoring leadership and truthful leadership is needed today more than ever. May we encourage today’s leaders and up and coming leaders to do things the right way, which is also God’s way, and watch Him bless you as you prosper. The Bible says “...may you prosper even as your soul prospers”. Believe me when I say lasting leadership is not going to happen with misguided beliefs. Where is the best place to turn for ultimate success, principles and belief? God’s unfettered Words ...the Bible. Timothy writes in I I Timothy 3:16-17 “All scripture is given for inspiration by God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect and thoroughly furnished unto good works.” Get success principles from God’s Word for ultimate lasting success. Remember, God has gifted you and given you the desire to lead. Honor Him with your choices.
