Be The Majestic Christian God Intended You To Be!

Why are the things you think are important, especially important to you? Your values are the things most important to you. Life is short and the most precious things can easily become lost. Have you ever noticed how the most beautiful and the grandeur becomes everyday and mundane? Things are comfortable and we no longer want to be challenged. We are called to make the Bible the book that can bring change not just placed on a shelf. We are called to a higher standard. God is all about the highest expectations. But sometimes, we treat our faith in God as something irrelevant. Whether it is a Mountain View or a house overlooking the crashing waves of the ocean, it can become so common and we get use to it. We no longer see the majesty and power. We can actually get blinded by beauty. . We arrived in Hawaii and after getting our car traveled up the coast, we were mesmerized by the beauty of God’s creation. As we rounded each corner, we could not wait for another banquet of beauty. The trees were so green as they blew in the trade winds, and were framed with the shades of blue and turquoise waters with foam crests. We couldn’t imagine anything so beautiful. Then we stopped at a local store and with all the excitement I could muster, I exclaimed how beautiful the islands were and how blessed he was to be living there. To which he snapped back at me, I’ll trade you places! I am so tired of the islands. I stood there transfixed. How could that be possible? How can someone harden to the majesty of God? The question is how can we lose the reality of the splendor of God’s actions that display His goodness, holiness, and His worthiness? Recently, we were at the Mouth of the Grand Canyon. As we walked up to the edge, our mouths dropped in unison with all those around us. “Wow, unbelievable, and even oh my God!” spilled out of stunned hearts from all who were standing on the edge of this massive canyon, overlooking unsurpassed splendor and majestic beauty. The other day I stood at the cash register and looked down into my grocery cart and then scanned the store shelves in the distance. Once again they had been stocked to the ceiling with every of kind food and drink. I was overwhelmed by the thought of how amazing God is and how God continues to provide and bring forth more food. First it has to be grown, then it needs to be harvested, then packaged, and finally transported and placed on the shelves, only for there to be more next as the people grab it out of God’s gift of abundance. God’s bounty and providence overtook my soul as I said to the checkout Clerk. “ All these people and all this food today and then again tomorrow and then the next day, wow God is marvelous... we forget to thank Him and praise Him...God loves you and me so much.” To which she gave me strange look and responded, "you know you’re right! I hadn’t thought about that recently.” As I walked my groceries to my car, I thought about how often we don’t see clearly as our Lord and the Savior of our lives. We must know Him as Savior and much, much more. We have lost touch with the most important and our faith has become mundane. Psalm 104:1-13. Some have even taken this further. One of my sons said he was struggling with going to church because he was bored and said he has already heard the “stuff” already. Yet if you ask him if he knows Jesus as a personal Savior, he quickly responds yes. Today he and many others have expressed this same sad expression; they are not attending church, spiritual growth or praise meetings. He said, "Dad I am saved and I am going to heaven. Why does it matter?" Jesus Christ died and gave us His Spirit so that we might have abundant life. Jesus Christ did this for you and me. So why is this happening? I am afraid to say for some Christians, Christianity has become background noise or static to their ears. They have “muscle memory“ of being a Christian, but exercise little faith. They used to be active or grew up as Christians, but now the tenants and practices of faith are just a part of the landscape. These are legacy Christians, but are no longer practicing Christ followers or bright lights amidst the darkness of today. It is estimated that this is largest faith group in America today - approximately 3 out of 4 people who call themselves Christian are mundane to say the least. Christianity to them is no longer the guiding light in their lives. Oh it’s there, but it’s old and outdated. Quotes from Good Faith by David Kinaman. We need a change in the scenery of life or a new look at the beauty and majesty of Christ our Savior. We need to help these legacy Christians experience the joy of being a Christian and help them to see, hear, and watch God at work in the lives of people all around them. They need to know more than ever God is relevant in life and culture. Living the Christian life is not boring; in fact the ministry God has called you to is a blast!
