Why Are People More Prone To Respond To The Negative Side Of Things on Facebook.
Why are people so quiet on Facebook when it is positive, yet so heated when the feed Is negative? The Facebook platform has the juggernaut on all social media. But what is an algorithm and how might it be used to divide people and polarize this nation? The Facebook Algorithm is a closely guarded and constantly changing formula to determine what Facebook considers worthy of a news feed. Facebook is capable of incredibly detailed targeting; you can specify your audience by interests, zip codes and even by employers and much more.
Did you know Facebook determines who will see your posts and who will not.
When you open your newsfeed, Facebook looks at all the sites and posts to and from friends. Facebook then applies an Algorithm or formula to look through your posts and pages you follow.
Then it signals to the computers to make a decision as to what data you have and whether you would have interest in a certain story or page.
It determines a rank and who needs to see it, then moves the data to certain parties who are most likely to respond positively or negatively.
Then Facebook ranks your database and determines a “relevance score” based on predictions and probabilities.
They make decisions based on comments, shares and likes. Their mantra is you will know and others will know your likes.
The founder of Facebook has just finished a hearing before congress and told us how the information downloaded has impacted us in so many ways. He just announced that in the very near future, video will be coming to Facebook. He calls it the the new “mega trend”. So get ready for a new approach to video.
Try it yourself; post something positive, kind and lovely and watch to see the responses. Then post something political, especially right of the scale and watch the “board light up.” So much vitriol, name calling and division. Have you ever wondered why? Who is controlling the data and why? Does Facebook control the political and cultural narrative in America? Can Facebook influence thought and polarization without anyone noticing? Just asking!
